American Tax Consultancy is the US tax consulting trade name of Robert L Williams.
Robert L Williams is a US international tax attorney based in Jersey, Channel Islands. In addition to providing specialist US international tax consulting services to select family office clients, he is Chairman of the Board of Hess Collection Winery, Vice Chairman of Hess Family Estates AG and a member of the Boards of Peter Lehmann Wines Ltd and Glen Carlou Vineyards (Pty) Ltd.
As an international tax partner with Ernst & Young Jersey he had a leading role in designing US tax focused offshore trust structures including variable annuity, life insurance, trust and company products. Mr Williams has been a speaker at various international tax conferences and courses since 1981 and has written articles and books on international tax issues, including US/UK Integrated Tax Planning: Estates, Gifts & Trusts (BNA 1991); Permanent Establishments – A Planning Primer (Kluwer, 1992) and The Butterworth’s Guide to US/UK Private Wealth International Tax Planning (Tottel, 2005).
Mr Williams was a Director of Royal Bank of Canada’s tax consulting affiliate, Regent Tax Consultants Ltd, from 2000-2004. Prior to that, as an EY tax partner from 1993-2000 he was a founding member of Ernst & Young International’s Private Wealth Group and editor of its 31 country internal reference book, Private Wealth Taxation (4th Ed. 1998).
In 1985, he joined Arthur Young as the first member of its London based international tax group. Prior to 1985, Mr Williams practiced trade regulation, estate planning and international tax law for 16 years in Washington DC and Seattle. He was an Adjunct Professor of Taxation at the University of Puget Sound (1981) and at Golden Gate University (1982-1983) where he taught courses in Income Taxation, Estate and Gift Taxation and Taxation of Corporations and Shareholders.
